Sometimes during camp, a small group would assemble for an evening out at the Boland's house for a challenging evening of Charades, presided over by the Squire. The game would begin innocently enough with beverages and snacks, choosing teams and huddling to find the most outrageous titles or other items for the opponents to charade. Art and Shirley's library was always apparently a great place to find obscure titles, but ONLY if Art were on your team; he knew them all and could figure out even the slightest clue to them. Kon Tiki seemed to enjoy such popularity that at one point teams agreed secretly that the clue to that title would be simply to fall down as time started.
Not, of course, that anyone took the games seriously. Everyone did! Passions ran high and the games ran long. It was a real education to watch Art and his proteges effortless come up with pantomimes to the most bizarre titles. And there was that glint in his eye when "he gotcha."
I never can play Charades again without fondly remembering those nights out at the Boland's.
