CAMP READ ASSOCIATION

On Friday, January 6th 2023, the Camp Read Association hosted a dinner at the Durland Scout Reservation for the 2022 Camp Read staff. There were about fifty in attendance. Board members Bill Daley, Tom Dietz, Dave Morris and Bill Langham were on hand to help set up and serve some wonderful catered food.

Much conversation transpired around the glow of the wood stove. It was great to see the smiles on the faces of staff both new and old. The camaraderie that was demonstrated gives hope for the summers to come.

Rich Stockton, the Council’s CEO and Read Reservation Director offered greetings and encouragement to all. It was also nice to see Sandy Owens (Council’s Administrative Assistant for Camping) who gives so much attention and care to the Camp Read Staff, current and past. Sandy was instrumental in arranging the event and getting word out to Staff.

Once everyone had their fill, our President Bill Daley presented the 2022 Staff awards to four of the staff. The awardees present were Abe Marron for Camp Buckskin, Alex Duque for STEM Ranch, Liam Montgomery for Camp Managers and Mariposa Condron receiving the coveted “Staff of the Year” award. The awardee for Camp Waubeeka, Henry James, was not able to attend. Congratulations to the awardees and the 2022 Camp Staff for a job well done!

It cannot be overlooked that we celebrated Bill Langham’s birthday. Once again, he arranged for a fantastic cake for dessert (minus any candles). Bill is the Association’s Membership VP and he was doing his due diligence by soliciting contact information from the Staff members who wanted to be included in the Association mailings.

After such a great evening of being with a new generation of the Camp Staff, we recognized that the legacy of excellence at Camp Read would be sure to continue for many years in the future.
