The Terribile Pavilion
On the picture-perfect Sunday afternoon of July 12th 2026, Camp Read Association
(CRA) members gathered at Camp Waubeeka with current and past staff, Pleasantville
Scouts and Scouters, and family and friends of David Terribile to dedicate a new
building. The new first year camper program pavilion located near the Waubeeka
spillway commands a fantastic view up Waubeeka Lake with First, Second, and Third
Brother Mountains as a backdrop.
The pavilion, dedicated to the memory of David Terribile, was made possible by a
fundraising campaign kicked off by the CRA at its 2024 reunion. The CRA raised over
$38k to supplement the $25k donated by David Terribile just before his passing in 2022.
As Scoutmaster of Pleasantville Troop 5 for over 12 years, David Terribile was a
longtime supporter of the Camp Read Association and Camp Read. He consistently
brought his troop to Camp Waubeeka for two weeks. Among his other contributions is
a canoe trailer he built that is still used by Summit Base. He was awarded the Silver
Beaver for his contributions to Scouting.
The July dedication date was selected since Pleasantville Troop 12 was checking into
camp that afternoon. Troop 12 opened the dedication with a flag ceremony and the
Scout Oath and Law. Ron Green welcomed the approximately 50 guests, which
included many of the donors. Both the current Waubeeka Camp Director, Gregg Dick,
and Council Executive, Richard Stockton, spoke of the benefits that the new pavilion will
bring. The pavilion is a huge improvement over the picnic table and tarp used by
Waubeeka’s first year camper program since its inception 20+ years ago. Due to its
outstanding location, the building is already finding other uses, including hosting the
weekly meeting of camp directors.
One moving part of the dedication ceremony was Anthony Carpenito’s description of
David Terribile’s leadership and how it impacted him as a Scout in Troop 5. Anthony
presented engraved plaques with ‘Mr T isms’ that will hang at the pavilion:

After the ceremony, attendees shared lunch and enjoyed a celebratory cake. All
leftovers were given to the current Waubeeka staff to enjoy. Of course, the attendees
left the pavilion and Camp Read better than they found it!

For generations, summer after summer, scouts have been making memories at Camp Read. In 2020, the pandemic may have forced regular activities to pause, but campers from years gone by are sharing their stories here in an effort to fill in the gap. Read on to get your fix of Camp Read hijinks until we can safely fill a parade ground once more!
