GHVC Camp-o-ree Recap

On Saturday May 4th, (“may the fourth be with you”) our Association participated in a Star Wars themed Council wide Camp-o-ree held at the Thomas Bull Memorial Park, Maybrook, Orange County, NY.  This was the first for the Greater Hudson Valley Council and featured various games, events and tests of scouting knowledge and skills.

CRA members manned a table to promote the Association, Eager Beaver Work Weekend and the Fall Reunion at Camp Read.

Will Langham, Paul Knudsvig, and Mike Tripodi stopped by to lend support during breaks from their stations.  We met Scouts and Leaders from PA and both sides of the Hudson, Joe the photographer (a Scout Master from Port Jervis, NY) and some of the current Read Staff whom we had added to our mailing list during the January Staff Appreciation Dinner.  We added a few more names to our contact list, handed out several brochures and flyers, and collected some contributions.  We even sold a few water bottles (only 2 left).

We met Ken, who was an advisor to the GHVC Mahicantuck OA Lodge #15 WWW and our station neighbor.  Ken enlightened us to the origins of the Lodge name and mascot, the Mastodon, who was released to wander about the crowd.  We also met with Tom Campanile, Council Board Chair, and discussed our working relationship with Council and of course our work at Camp Read.

It was a fun event and a nice way to spend a Saturday!
